Exams and assessments are an integral part of evaluating student progress and ensuring academic integrity. This Proctoring and Exam Policy outlines the procedures, expectations, and requirements for taking exams in a fair and secure environment.
Policy Guidelines
The Proctoring and Exam Policy is designed to:
- Maintain academic integrity.
- Ensure consistency in exam administration.
- Provide clear guidelines for students, instructors, and proctors.
To Whom Does it Apply?
This policy applies to all students enrolled in courses at LightStars Academy that include proctored or unproctored exams, quizzes, or other assessments.
Exam Types

- Proctored Exams
- Conducted under supervision to ensure compliance with exam rules.
- May be in-person or remote using proctoring software.
- Unproctored Exams
- Completed independently by the student, relying on the honor code.
Proctoring Methods
Online Proctoring
- Remote proctoring software monitors students via webcam and screen recording.
- ID verification may be required before starting the exam.
In-Person Proctoring
- Arranged at approved locations such as libraries, testing centers, or schools.
- Proctors must be approved by LightStars Academy and cannot be related to the student.
Scheduling Exams
- Students must schedule exams by the deadlines outlined in the course syllabus.
- Late exam scheduling may result in rescheduling fees or forfeiture of the exam.
Exam Rules and Expectations
Before the Exam
- Ensure all required technology (e.g., computer, webcam, internet connection) is working.
- Review the exam instructions and allowed materials in advance.
During the Exam
- Follow all instructions provided by the proctor or software.
- Keep the testing area clear of unauthorized materials.
- No communication with others or use of unapproved devices (e.g., phones, smartwatches).
- Always stay visible on camera for online proctoring.
After the Exam
- Submit the exam within the allotted time.
- Report any technical issues immediately to your instructor or technical support.
Academic Integrity
Students are expected to adhere to the LightStars Academy Code of Conduct during exams. Cheating, plagiarism, or other forms of academic dishonesty will result in disciplinary action, including:
- A failing grade on the exam.
- Potential course failure.
- Further actions as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
Accommodations for Special Needs
Students requiring accommodations (e.g., extended time, assistive technology) must submit documentation to the LightStars Academy administration at least 10 business days before the exam. Approved accommodations will be coordinated with the instructor and proctor.
Exam Retakes
Retakes may be permitted under the following circumstances:
- Documented technical issues during the exam.
- Approved medical or personal emergencies.
- Other exceptional circumstances reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Students requesting a retake must submit a written request to the instructor within 3 business days of the original exam date.
Technical Support for Online Proctoring
If technical difficulties occur during an online exam, students must:

Violations of Exam Policy
